The recent editorial on Colonie's noise regulation is not based on what is needed to understand and argue the issue. Acoustics are more complicated than the simple numbers you present. It depends how far away from a sound source a measurement is done and for how long sound above a certain level is sustained.

The 95 decibel measurement given for an electric drill is the loudness next to it, not what you hear on your lot if someone drills inside his home, or even outside. As "the inverse square law" kicks in, only a quarter of the energy reaches your ear at twice the distance.
